Laura Ling and Euna Lee
Two Journalist that were captured in North Korea are wondering if
they were lured into a trap. They are raising supiscion about their guide. According to
Lee and Ling they were on North Korena soil for less than a minute before turning back.
They were taken by a guide to a well used trafficking route. They had no intention of
leaving China but followed their guide to see a small village near the border of North
Korea and China.
The group headed back to China and were halfway there when North Korean soldiers yelled
for them to stop. The group ran and where in China when they were apprehended. The women
were caught but their guide and a producer, Mitch Koss, were not.
The guide was fine and cool before the day of the capture. But later during the day/night
he seemed worse than usual. He doned a Chinese overcoat and changed the starting point on
the river. They don't know to this day if they were lured into a trap. The women due admit
that is was ultimately their decision something they regret.
They damaged their own videotapes, swallowed their notes, and made sure not to give away
their sources or people.
The women said they were in that region of North Korea "to raise awareness about
the harsh reality facing these North Korean defectors who, because of their illegal
status in China, live in terror of being sent back to their homeland."(Posted in a column
on the Los Angles Times Web site- September 1, 2009)
I think there is so much more that can be done, especially to the guide but it all depends
on the women. Do they really what to go into the five months captivity? There are things
that don't need to be brought up and things that do. But the psychological wounds still
hurt and will hurt for a long time. Can they deal with that past bringing brought up?
Even if it hurts maybe just maybe we or they can figure out why the guide gave them up. If
he did give them up.
I found this on CNN specifically the website-cnn.com
There are other articles around but this article really hit me. Could they have done something
different? The woman made mistakes but they acknowledge them and I think that is a good
thing. If you acknowledge your mistakes maybe you can move on, not right away but it helps
a bit.
People, everyone in the world are discriminated a bit. It's not just age, race, or sex that
gets discriminated. Humans can discriminate against others that they don't understand.
If you have a disability, live in a poor place, are southern, northern, christian, muslim,
even if you have something no one likes you can be discriminated. Bringing in affirmative
action again though? I believe that it won't work. Maybe it will, for a little while, and then
maybe it won't. For me to have affirmative action brought in again, well that will bring
our country down more. We're suppose to learn from the past, that includes what was brought
in to help with discrimination and racism. Why else did we elect an african-american president?
Bringing affirmative action back in the picture will tell everyone in the world that we are
having problems. Do we really want to show our weaknesses? I believe that we if we bring
affirmative action in again it will make our place in the world even lower than what it is.
Why do we seem to have the problems that the world fixes on? I mean that others have problems
but our problems seem to take the cake. Is it because we are such a big power in the world?
Do we really want to tell them that no one is so secure in this country that we have to
have affirmative action back?
The world knows that we have problems but do we really want to tell that they are true?
Can't we leave it the way it is? Affirmative action is wrong, for this day and age that
is. It was for the past not the present. This country needs something else, the people pulling
their heads out of their bottoms. We need to work it out ourselves in our own way, maybe
it would work but maybe it won't. People are still discriminated and personally I
feel that isn't going to change. No matter how much we try someone will always be
discriminated in some way. We can try and bring it to task but I believe that no matter
how much we try, in some way, someone or persons will always have racism, discrimination
after them.
